To make beef jerky, you will need the following ingredients and steps:

Ingredients:
- 1 pound of lean beef (such as flank steak or sirloin)
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Optional: red pepper flakes for heat

Steps:
1. Slice the beef into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick.
2. In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, smoked paprika, and red pepper flakes if using.
3. Add the beef strips to the marinade, making sure each strip is coated evenly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
4. Preheat your oven to 175°F (80°C) or use a food dehydrator.
5. Place the marinated beef strips on a wire rack on top of a baking sheet or directly on the dehydrator trays.
6. Bake or dehydrate the beef for 4-6 hours, or until it is dried and chewy. Check on it periodically and rotate the trays if needed.
7. Once the beef jerky is done, let it cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
